Pony & Plume

Located inside Capella at Galaxy Macau, Pony & Plume may be the only bar in town where you can walk through the door and temporarily forget you’re in Macau.

The dark equestrian-inspired room is spectacular, headlined by a glowing wall holding more than 650 whiskies. That may be the official attraction, but the real reason to come is the resident Latin band.

The band is good and the singer can belt it out with the best of them. Once they get going, people actually start dancing and the room comes alive. Macau doesn’t have many places like this anymore.

I happened to be sitting one table over from Joe, the DJ from Long Bar, who explained how the band came together. The musicians were recruited individually by an entertainment company in Thailand, assembled from different countries as complete strangers, and sent to Macau to become a band.

Corporate matchmaking, Latin edition. Somehow, it worked.

The dance floor can get friendly as well. One woman was so determined to dance with me that I practically had to beat her off with a stick—with my wife sitting right there.

Yes sir, I still got it!

Drinks are expensive without being criminally so. Signature cocktails cost $160 to $180, standard spirits generally start around $80 or $90, and beer is $90. Add another 10% for service. Given the setting, entertainment and extremely friendly staff, those prices are easier to swallow than expected.

Pony & Plume is a total must for anyone into Latin music—1,000%.  The music starts at 9:30 pm from Monday to Wednesday, and 10:30 pm on every other night.

Pony & Plume keeps hours from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am Monday through Thursday and from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am on Friday and Saturday.
