Cravings

(Last updated: May 20, 2026)

Cravings sits in the heart of central Macau, right near the Fire Services Museum and Lin Kai Temple. I first heard about it from the owners of MacauSoul, who’d heard good things, and then later on, one of my readers recommended it as well.

Knowing that it often fills up, we made sure to make reservations, arriving at 8 pm. As expected, the place was packed, almost entirely with locals.

What followed was one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I’ve had in Macau in a while.

The Grilled Squid ($158) was a rough start. Slightly salty, chewy in places and surprisingly small for the price, it came with a large potato that somehow managed to be both soft and dry.  2 stars

The Seafood Rice ($148) wasn’t any better. It tasted more like loose, tomato-heavy pasta than seafood rice, with the sauce burying everything underneath it.  2 stars

The Minchi ($70) was dry, overloaded with onions and strangely sticky. There was also a hint of spice that didn’t belong, and at one point we genuinely wondered whether it contained seafood. It certainly didn’t taste fresh.  2 stars

The Curry Radish Prawns ($73) may have been the most frustrating dish of all. The prawns were dry, the shells were tough, and peeling everything ourselves turned dinner into manual labour.  1 star

Near the end of the meal, the owner asked what we thought, and I didn’t hold back. She explained that the food was tailored to the neighbourhood crowd, who generally prefer softer, lighter flavours. Unable to argue with a packed dining room, I told her to keep doing exactly that. It clearly works for plenty of people.

Unfortunately, it never worked for me. In the end, every dish landed around 2 stars, which is the score I give the restaurant overall.

Don’t get me wrong: I always appreciate recommendations, and I’m glad I tried it.

But I have a strong craving to never return.
