Henri’s Galley once held a proud place on my list of 10 Iconic Restaurants. I’ve been coming here on and off since 2012 and, until now, had never had a bad meal. It felt like one of those places that would just stay good forever.
What made this visit so jarring was the lack of warning. There were no rumblings online, no whispers among friends that it was circling the drain. The only hint came when we secured a relatively late Friday night reservation with suspicious ease. After dinner, I understood exactly why.
It’s over. Henri’s Galley is being demoted to 1.5 stars, effective immediately.
The Shrimp Toast ($120) was an absolute non-starter. Greasy, flat, and completely devoid of flavour, it tasted like something pulled from a freezer and forgotten in the fryer. It should have had somw hint at seafood, but this didn’t even manage that. Fast-food level at best. 1 star

The Cocktail Sausages ($120) might have been even worse. Cheap, rubbery sausages arrived drowned in a sauce that tasted suspiciously like leftover African chicken gravy. Frankly embarrassing. 1 star

The Crab in Shell ($220) came buried beneath a heavy coating that overwhelmed whatever crab might have been inside. There was no sweetness, no freshness and barely any crab to speak of. For $220, it was out-and-out larceny. 1 star

To be fair, the African Chicken ($200) was still pretty good, although not as good as I remembered. The sauce remained rich and familiar, but the chicken itself was noticeably drier. 4 stars

At the end of the meal, I asked the waiter whether Raymond was still running things, and he said yes. I’d actually thought the restaurant had changed hands because the experience was so different.
Unless Henri’s Galley returns to what it once was, I’m out. I used to trust it completely, but it just delivered one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in Macau. Outside of the African Chicken, it didn’t even seem like they tried.
Henri’s Galley has sprung a leak, and I’m not staying aboard to see whether it sinks.
SOS for anyone thinking of dining there.
